Not inherited per se, but a friend asked me to take a look at some of his somewhat neglected collection with a view to see if there was any worth in it. I've told him not to expect too much but thought I'd show some items of possible interest here.

Some background: prior to retirement he spent some considerable time in the tea trade and a lot of the items relate to that. Namely, a series of postcards, mostly from Eastern Europe placing orders for batches of tea.

I have no idea how this next one actually reached it's destination, the address seems somewhat obscure and incomplete:

There are several others, all quite similar in nature.

I'll post some of the album pages shortly.

The bulk of his collection is not held in albums as such, but appear to have been mounted in whatever books came to hand. Here's a sample of the Victorian section, mounted in a 'memorandum' book:

I suspect the first few Victorians are probably the most valuable in the whole collection, here is a better scan of those.

The stamps are organised somewhat haphazardly, the only rule appearing to be 'one country to a page'. There is no interleaving, stamps being mounted on both sides of the pages.

One of the USA pages in the memorandum book:

Finally, for now, another book seems to have been a repurposed ledger book! This has alphabetic tags, and is well populated. Here are a couple of random pages, difficult to fit onto my scanner...

I hope in future to get access to more of his collection, which apparently is stored in a number of plastic crates, so hopefully quite extensive. Who knows what treasures could potentially be in there??

It looks like a pretty basic collection right now. Worth a few dollars, but not much more. Condition is everything, and even those Victorians are in bad shape. Post a few more and we'll see what others think.

1d blacks will always sell, even if, like this one, they're rough. It looks as if he had lots of fun making up albums with what was to hand, which is always good to see.
