Is this a first edition Nevis one penny stamp 1861 ? Can any body please advise on the value of this, is it rare ? I found this in my late father's collection.
Hello. No, it isn't rare. The catalogue value varies according to which issue it is - ebay will give you indications of prices being asked (not necessarily received)
What is the perforation gauge. It looks like a perf. 13, which would be the first issue. The paper looks greyish rather than bluish or whitish, but that is difficult to say from the picture. Does it have gum? It should not have a watermark. There appears to be a circle at the bottom seen from the back. That may be the trace of a cancellation.
2007 Empire: GBP 85 unused 50 used, 275/120 if on bluish paper, 48/40 if on whitish paper
Considering the missing corner southwest, the missing perforations right and top, the folded corner southeast, you will struggle to get GBP 5 for it, even if it is unused.
