I don't know if this is the correct area to post but has anyone been to the outdoor stamp fair in Paris?

I want to know if it's worth visiting (I'll be in Paris in two weeks) - here are links to it:

let me know, thanks, David

To me, "stamps" and "outdoors" don't mix. (sun, wind, rain, bugs, ...) but if I were there, I would be sure to attend. Looks fun. I just hope they don't use pushpins to mount the stamps like they did in the early days.

Let us know how it goes.

Keep an eye on the weather. I have been in Paris since May 23 and through June 19 we have had something like 12 days of rain. The country set a 35-year rainfall record for May and today it is overcast and gloomy again. You have the dealers on Rue Druout as a backup.

Travel on the Right Bank can be challenging right now. Multiple road diversions around grandstands for the Olympics and Place de la Concorde is fully closed. My place is in the 6th and I've been doing anything I can not to cross the Seine needlessly.

Have fun!

You could try the museum in Montparnasse - haven't been myself, as it was closed for many years. I've neve had much success in finding shops - aside from Yvert - open in rue Drouot. The Ceres shop in rue de Louvre and the stamp shop in Palais Royal are other possibilities. On the other hand, my view is that there are better things to do in Paris than look at stamps!

I went to the market 20+ years ago and it was like a flea market. Obviously things may have changed in two decades, and maybe I hit it on a bad day or bad time, but when I was there it wasn't anything like a stamp show in the US with organized material for sale. It was just an opportunity to dig through boxes of and binders of common / unsorted material. I think I spent less than 15 minutes there.

That, usually, is what an open-air stamp and coin market is about.
It is not a stamp exhibition. And yes, you should be careful that the stamps are of good quality. But it is not unheard of that you can do a good deal at such a venue.

@cjpalermo1964 - I heard that the weather has been raining - I'd like to see how an outdoor flea market sells stamps!

@GeoffHa - very cool - that's looks like a good idea - I've been to the National Postal Museum in Washington DC - really a great experience!

@SPQR I figured the same thing - just a short walk through

@NSK agreed - just another stamp experience for the philatelic bucket list.

I've never been but if you watch the movie charade there's a pretty good glimpse of what it was sixty or so years ago… if I could go I would just to say I was there… David I would love to hear a review!

I will be in Paris for the Paralympics in August and plan to check out the stamp market as well as the Postal Museum and some of the stamp shops not far from the market.
Does anyone know of any stamp clubs in Paris? It may be fun to visit, even if I know limited French.
