Poll Question:
I am a member of several boards that pertain to stocks, bonds, and checks. All of them are sub forums of numismatic boards. This makes sense to me, as they seem much more closely related to paper money. Only this one is a philatelic subforum. Typically, this type of material is found at coin shows, almost never at stamps shows.

I'm wondering if this forum would get more attention and more members if it were moved to the Coin Community Family. I'd like to hear some opinions from others members.

Choices:
Move this forum to the Coin Community Family site.
Leave this forum on the Stamp Community Family site.

I view stocks, bonds, and check as financial instruments that would be more closely aligned with the coin community. Just my 2¢.

There's a third option: Have a "Checks, stocks, and bonds" section in both the coin and stamp forums. There are aspects of these items that appeal to BOTH collecting communities, and I don't know that there is much crossover traffic between the two forums.

It doesn't have to be an all-or-nothing proposition.

However, if limited to the above 2 options, I would say leave as is. Checks, stocks, and bonds have great appeal to those of us that are revenue stamp collectors.

P.S. I strongly disagree with the contention that that "Typically, this type of material is found at coin shows, almost never at stamps shows." I purchased several stock certificates at Chicagopex and almost 100 pieces of checks/drafts. There was PLENTY of this material available.

I'd say stocks and bonds more generally orient to the coin/currency side of the table; checks more on the stamp side, but there is interest in both directions. I think there is merit in leaving this one here to "spread the gospel" of some of these items that have appeal to both fields.

Revenuecollector, I need to attend Chicagopex! My stamp and coin show visits tend to be limited to the West and my experience here has been that paper money dealers are far more likely to handle this sort of material than stamp dealers.

I'm not opposed to having a subforum on both websites, but it seems as though the philatelic community is most interested in this material for its connection to revenue stamped paper. Is that an accurate assessment? Why not create a subforum specifically for that field?

GregAlex, the national/regional major shows are more likely to have this sort of material than local shows. Richard Friedberg, Eric Jackson, and Denny Peoples all carry a large selection of stocks, bonds, and checks.

I only recently started focusing on revenue stamped paper (RNs), so my interest has primarily been for the adhesive revenue stamps affixed, the cancels used, and the engravings/aesthetics.

I believe you are likely to find more adhesive revenues than revenue stamped paper at any given stamp show. The RNs, especially on large format documents, tend to be more expensive and elusive than examples with adhesive revenues. Also, there were far fewer companies that went to the expense of having their stocks/bonds/checks/other documents imprinted with revenues rather than just using revenue stamps to pay the taxes.

The Coin Community Family site just created a sub-forum! This is "probationary" and will be reevaluated in a few months to determine if the activity merits continuation.

Okay, I'm the new guy on the block and I'm here because I found a post by GregAlex in this forum while researching something else, sort of serendipity. Anyway, I'll vote for BOTH forums; why not?
Besides, I've having a great time just reading many of the posts and following some of the threads. just my 3 cents
