I have done some investigating and it seems that we do not have a troll in our midst. My apologies to AJ for that part. It is never good for anybody to make too many assumptions about a person if you don't know them. Sometimes they are real people that seem like trolls, and then, every once in a while, you bump into a person that knows a hell of a lot more than you think. |

I appreciate those comments Winston.
I'm off now to look at a few other threads and make some contributions so I can qualify to post some pics of my own.

I didn't know that you needed to have a certain number of posts to add images. I sent you an email a couple days ago via this forum. I would be happy to post images for you if you would like. |

Here is one that I think I just found a plate position for. I think it is 73R1L. Here is the stamp: Here is my stamp top and bottom with the plating marks from Doporto site. Not much to plate with but I think it matches. |

This was was written on the back as 84R1L in pencil. The plate dot did not match and I think it is 46R1L. It shows the Neinken plating dot and the smaller dot shown on Doporto site but it is real light. It has the split recut line at bottom left. Should I change the mark on the back? |

I'd say just erase what's written if you can do it safely. Don't write anything new. I'm not a fan of writing on stamps or covers. |

Rather than try to erase it, the 84 had a space before R1L, so I added a 6 after the 4 and changed the 8 to a #. Now reads #46R1L. :) |

I made a guide dot chart for Plate 1 Late, right pane. I may make one for the left pane tomorrow. This may help with the plating.

That is really nice! Considering some of my past comments, you might be able to figure out my one big problem with it. |

Jaxom,
That is useful chart I think. I use the guide-dot charts in Neinken for plate 1L regularly but your charts use actually real pictures (from doporto?), so may prove to be good tool going forward.
Good idea!

If the scans from which you made those are not your own personal scans, and you are using them without permission, then that is a problem.
If you got them from Doporto's website, you should both email him first, and ask for permission to use them -- which I suspect he'd give you, but then you also need to credit accordingly with the scan.
If these are all your stamps and your original scans, then great !
This is certainly a useful thing you are doing, but you definitely have to do it right, before it counts. Thanks! |

I just did it for myself and thought I would share. I guess that if there is an issue, I will not post the others I will make for myself.
Pictures on the internet are freeware. If anyone has access, then is it freeware. I will not tie my hands behind my back trying to learn these stamps, most of which I will never afford. That is why there is such a problem identifying these plate 3 and 4 stamps. You cannot own them all. Use the web to find the pictures you need to fill the gaps in the database. It is the only way to accomplish anything.
I removed the photo and sent a copy to Richard D to look at and approve. Most but not all were from his site. Some examples were not usable and I had to find copies. I will still make copies for myself.

Jaxom,
Hopefully doporto will have no issue. It would be great if he puts your guide dot chart on his website as a resource tool, and credits you personally on the site for making it.

Quote: ...Pictures on the internet are freeware. If anyone has access, then is it freeware... I respectfully disagree with this statement. Here is a chart that can be used to navigate an understanding about using images from the internet. Sorry for the size, but I didn't want to make it unreadable, click on it to see full, readable resolution. I think it is great that jaxon has removed his effort and is asking Richard for permission. Allow me to be blunt. There are some folks who refuse to publish any of their work/knowledge and are fine with taking it to the grave with them without ever sharing it. So when we do have folks who are willing to freely publish their work, at a minimum we should show them consideration by asking permission. If we do not do this, those who are giving back to our hobby may lose motivation to share. Don |
