jamesw,

thanks for the last post. Personally I enjoy these 'sidesteps',
they are just as educationally.

Thanks fifia. I've also noticed it could qualify for the 'trains' thread. It's multi purpose.

Here are images of a couple of engraved stamps depicting a coin of the Taiping Regime (1851-1864) and decrees of peasant government, issued by China (People's Republic) on December 15, 1951 for the centenary of the Taiping Rebellion, Scott Nos. 126 & 127.

150th Anniversary of Royal Thai Mint, 2010

Front side of the first hand-hammered Thai coin, and the Sitthikarn Mint, first Mint of Thailand:

Rear side of the same coin, and the present day Royal Thai Mint:

The coin images are finished with a foil process, not sure of the exact technique.

The highlight of my collecting this year.

Issue 940: The Celebrations on the Auspicious Occasion of His Majesty the King's 7th Cycle Birthday Anniversary 5th December 2011 Commemorative Stamps (1st Series)

King Rama IX, His Majesty King Bhumibol of Thailand

This series depicts commemorative coins issued so far during His Majesty's reign.

Thailand Post describes this seven-sided format as unique in postal history. I am not sure if they mean in Thailand or worldwide.

Amathus was one of the most ancient royal cities of Cyprus, with archeological evidence dating back to the 11th century BC. Here is an image of a stamp depicting a silver coin of Amathus, which features the head and upper body of a lion, engraved and printed by Bradbury Wilkinson & Co., and issued for use in Cyprus on February 1, 1928 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of British rule, Scott No. 114, SG No. 123.

Here is an image of a stamp depicting a silver coin issued during the reign of Rama IV, King of Siam (aka King Mongkut, 1804-1868), printed by lithogravure, and issued by Thailand on October 15, 1991 as one of a set of four stamps publicizing the 46th Annual Conference of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, held in Bangkok October 1-15, 1991, Scott No. 1406.

Numismatic note: This coin, minted in Great Britain, shows the standard design of both the silver and gold denominations issued by King Mongkut. The obverse depicts the Siamese crown with rays of light radiating above, flanked by leaf scrolls and a royal umbrella on either side. On the reverse an elephant (symbol of the kingdom of Siam) is shown encircled by a chakra (disc, wheel or sun symbol). This ancient Indian emblem of a warrior or world-ruler is one of the attributes of the Hindu god Vishnu, and was adopted as the dynastic mark of the Bangkok dynasty. The sixteen stars around the chakra indicate the denomination of two baht.

Just came across this stamp in my little 'autograph' collection . 1983 US #2036 US/Sweden Treaty of Amity and Commerce. Can anyone ID the coin on this stamp?

jamesw - I don't think that is a coin pictured on your USA-Sweden Treaty stamp. Instead, I believe it's a medallion bearing Sweden's royal coat of arms, shown below. BTW, this stamp was engraved by Czeslaw Slania, and it was a joint issue with Sweden in 1983.

I don't have a decent scanner - but how about the Coins of Syracuse from Italy ... that was a pretty big series (which I have).
