I recently inherited my grandfathers collection of stamps and covers including this signed cover with sheet of six "Little America" Byrd Expedition 2 stamps and enclosed typed and signed letter. I am just trying to value it at the moment. Can anyone help? Thanks!

I inherited a collection of UK machin's and it looks very comprehensive and would like to continue with collecting.However I am struggling to find information on "U" numers and the lettered sub sections within them ie. U123a or 123h with a ref to what it is sometimes,there does seem to be a large gap on info either with Stanley Gibbons or sellers with regard to this topic.Is there anywhere I can go to get a complete list of Machin "U" references,thanks in advance.

The U numbers are the numbers used in the Stanley Gibbons Great Britain Specialised Catalogue, Volume 4 (Queen Elizabeth II decimal issues). This has now two parts.

Hi Bushyboy. Not sure how much previous experience you have of stamp collecting, but Machin collections can get into very advanced territory, such as identifying varieties based on the appearance of the Queen's hair curls, gum types, even the thickness of bits of the numerals and so on.

Hello. Yes, it's a common French stamp. Perhaps show a whole page or two, but remember that most stamps are worth very little.

hi, I'm new to this forum. I collect everything pre-war. If anyone can help me with this question. I collect Lionel. One box I have is a return from The Lionel company dated February 1932. It has 2-5 cent Roosevelt stamps. I see on ebay that some Roosevelt stamps are collectable some not so much. I see two facets to your question: Everything is collectible. Not everything is valuable.

Not everything has the same value across every hobby. This item sounds like it would have more value to a train collector than a stamp collector. Although in the stamp world there is often a considerable difference between the value of the stamps (very low in this case, just pennies) and the value of the entire item as "postal history", as you seem to understand by having the Lionel box remain intact. A few pictures would be useful.

My siblings and I inherited my dad's stamp collection, which is mostly thousands of loose stamps in boxes (we have no idea what we have). I'm the executor so it's up to me to liquidate this since no one wants to keep it going. Don't compile any sort of inventory until you've established whether it's worth doing so! "Thousands of stamps in boxes" suggests an accumulation, rather than a carefully compiled collection. Why not upload some representative photos here to let people offer their thoughts? Good luck.
