There was a director and casting company that was going to all the elementary schools in my area and I guess around Ontario. They ended up casting two of my friends for main parts - Jill Stanley and my bud Anthony Rogers! We had no idea what the movie was actually about and then a little while later, out came the kids movie Tommy Tricker and the Stamp Traveller http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096282/I have to thank this movie for giving birth to my obsession with Canada's Bluenose Man on the Mast error. I get the feeling this movie does NOT stand up well against the test of time hehehe Edit - on a side note it's funny that they picked Anthony to be the bully role in the movie, he was actually the school bully in real life as I recall. A French short film from 1961 called "Rupture" has a scene with several stamps involved. The actor is not in the same league as Jacques Tati but the action is the main thing. The character tries to write a letter to his girlfriend and attempts to put stamps on the envelope... with what may have been fatal results (HINT: a rocking chair and an open window are involved). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orX3qV2BskwStamps scenes begin around the 7 minute mark ( a 10 minute film) if you want to fast forward. |

A cute quote from " The Saint in Palm Springs". The Saint: " If Your friend's brother is bringing $200,000 to Palm Springs he will need an armored truck." Inspector Fernack: "No he won't, it is in postage stamps." The Saint: "Then he will need two armored trucks." |

Quote: "Then he will need two armored trucks." He must have had bundle ware of packet material in mind. |

Just when you probably thought you had seen the last of this thread, I have another 'stamp in the movies' to offer. It's Scott 1143, the magenta and green Lincoln Credo commemorative issued on 11/19/60. (I was collecting back the, and remember when it and the piecemeal Credo series come out.) The Movie is Disney's 'One Magic Christmas' from 1985.
In an effort to bring back the Christmas Spirit in her mother -- and her father, killed during a bank robbery, back to life -- Abbie, the little girl who holds the story together, enlists the aid of Gideon, a one-time cow hand who drowned saving a child one Christmas Eve and is now a Christmas angel Abbie has been talking with. Gideon takes her to the North Pole where Santa digs up a letter from his massive mail room, a letter from Abbie's mother, sent to him when she was a child in 1959.
The stamp is shown twice, once when Santa digs out the old letter in a Ramada Inn envelope (her father, Abbie's grandfather, ran a Ramada in) and again, when the mother finds it in Abbie's coat pocket and has a change of heart.
When I saw the date on the letter, November 29, 1959 my thought was that they got the stamp right. However, in looking up the catalog number for this post, I see the stamp was actually issued on November 19, 1960, meaning that they missed it by a year.
Not a bad movie if you're into good-hearted stuff.

I was wondering if there are novels about stamps collecting. I remember that I read a story about a kid collecting stamps in a French story during middle school but I forgot the title of the book. |

No idea as to what the great Sir Arthur Conan Doyle thought of stamp collecting, but it is rather obvious that the screenwriters and director of "Sherlock Holmes in Washington" did not have a high opinion of the hobby per this scenario: While sleuthing for clues in the London room of a missing British agent in the US; Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson are discussing the missing agent's collection. Sherlock Holmes: "I shall write a monograph some day on the obnoxious habit of accumulating useless trivia". |

The movie about the micro film. I've always enjoyed George Zucco as a character actor. Tom |

Just "watched" an "Adam 12" TV episode (season 6, ep. 7) called "Van Nuys Division: Pete's Mustache" in which stamps were stolen from a wealthy collector. Don't recall seeing any stamps though, but I was half asleep. |

Just finished watching Zodiac. Beginning the movie shows a mail room and a letter about to be delivered. The cover has a Roosevelt 1965 6 cent SC# 1284. |

A more recent Argentine 2000 movie called "Nine Queens" tells about a scam about a block of nine rare stamps being offered to a man who wants to send a large sum out of the country. It is available on Netflix

Great topic! Is there a better scan of the "Letter to Evie" postal used cover like the B/W Burr cover? I thought that I have read somewhere that someone here possibly owns one and was wondering if that was true and if they can post a nice color version. I'm looking to obtain a set of 6 of these for my collection. |
