A 1991 Israel stamp-on-stamp with a very philatelic first day cancellation (just in from londonbus1, thanks!):

((Darkened somewhat so you can see the white-on-white stamp on envelope.)

This Sirmoor stamp might well be the world's first stamp on stamp - a rather primitive effort, but ...



Gibbons explains it this way:
"These were originally made as reprints, about 1891, to supply collectors, but there being very little demand for them they were put into use. The design was copied (including the perforations) from an illustration in a dealer's catalogue." And here is the original design that was copied:

I LOVE STAMP ON STAMPS! My goal is not just to collect the SOS but also the stamp featured on the SOS.

Here's a couple examples:


I am always looking to trade stamped covers for any SOS.
