Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) 24th December 2003 Pilgrimage to Mecca The "Hajj" or pilgrimage must be made by every Muslim at least once in their life. Sometimes a whole family contributes to sending a relative on this often difficult journey before it's too late - in many cases it will be the first and only time they leave their village, never mind travel in an aircraft. To cope with the sheer volume of pilgrims, KSA built a separate Haj terminal at Jeddah airport. This shows Hajjis disembarking their aircraft in the simple robes required by all during their time in Mecca, and getting onto the transit bus. Republic of Korea ("South Korea" - RoK) 29th March 2001 Inauguration of Incheon International Airport (IIA) Built on land added between two pre-existing islands, west of the capital Seoul, this airport replaced Kimpo/Gimpo as the main international hub for the Korean peninsula. I can speak from experience that it was a great improvement on the old airport which had outgrown its humble origins.  Designed - Kim So Jeong |

Alderney 19th March 1985 50th Anniv. of Alderney Airport Built in 1935, a terminal building was added in 1968. The main runway length - 880m/2890ft limits the aircraft using it to those like the Trislander shown on the ramp. The prop under the tail is to prevent the aircraft from "squatting" when the luggage or mail is loaded in the rear compartment, before the passengers and pilot embark.  Designed - A Theobald |
