Hello Laophil: Greetings from another monkey collector! Been absent for awhile -COVID and other matters but back and hoping to contribute more.

This is a recent issue from Indonesia, showing the moor macaque, one of six macaque species on the island of Sulawesi (formerly, Celebes). The number of species is remarkable as they all may have evolved from a species crossing over when landbridges were present in the recent past. I count myself lucky to have seen all six, as all are endangered, one of them (the crested macaque, or "Celebes black ape").

Hello Cobie, nice to meet again! thanks for sharing the SS and hope to see more from you. Here is one of my favorite shows Proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus), engraved by John Augustus Charles Harrison and issued for use in North Borneo on January 1, 1939.

My turn again! There have been some nice primate issues from Niger - so here's
an example:

These are from 2022 and not only show quite a nice collection of primate but are also of interest for those who collect stamps of unusual shapes.

On the MS of 4, left. we see golden lion tamarin, mandril, orang-utan, and proboscis monkey; in the surround, gelada baboons, white-handed gibbon, chimpanzee, and gorilla. The SS MS shows a brown capuchin, and around it, a squirrel monkey, golden snub-nosed monkeys, and a Sumatran orang-utan.

The above is a 2016 issue showing two patas monkeys, as well as a Senegal galago and an olive baboon.

From 2015, a largish MS of 4 showing ring-tailed lemurs; on the stamps, crowned sifaka; a red-ruffed lemur; a white-handed gibbon, and a common marmoset.

PS Monkey collectors: Happy to correspond off-line about our collections - I think you can get my e-mail address if you are a bona fide member.

Hello Lao-chin:

Sorry about the long delay; I'll try and do better as there have been some nice issues like the set below from Angola (2018):

showing
Angolan colobus (Colobus angolensis)
Demidoff's galago (Galagoides demidoff)
Swamp monkey (Allenopithecus nigroviridis),
Black crested mangabey (Lophocebus aterrimus);

nice to see the swamp monkey considered a "primitive" species in the sense that it seems evolutionary old.

This the Ms of the set;
Moustached monkey (Cercopithecus ascanius)
In surround: Western lowland gorilla (G. g. gorilla), and figurines of Angolan colobus and swamp monkey.

I like the small drawings which also occur on the margins of the full sheets of the set.

In 2019, another set of primates was issued:

These are
Chacma baboon (Papio ursinus)
Chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes)
Red-tailed guenon (Cercopithecus ascanius)
De Brazza monkey (Cercopithecus neglectus)

and the sheets have small drawings of the animals in the margins too.

Shown here
Blue monkey (Cercopithecus mitis)
In surround: De Brazza monkey (Cercopithecus neglectus), red-tailed guenons (Cercopithecus ascanius), chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes).

More new issues to follow! Best wishes to all stamp enthusiasts here, Cobie

Hello Laophil and others:

There have been some nice new issues, although of course I do wonder about those from poor African countries although they are claimed as official. Here is one of the, from Djibouti, limited to 500:

On the left, Barbary macaques, red ruffed lemur, chimpanzee, Uganda red colobus; on the right, hamadryas baboon, green monkey, mandrill, and mountain gorilla.

Also recent, from Djibouti:

Two of China's rare species, the grey snub-nosed monkey, and the golden snub-nosed monkey - the latter, a picture of a young animal - it does not yet have the bright blue face of the adult.

Official issue from Surinam, continuing their monkey series that have been issued almost yearly from about a decade; this issue is not of the same high picture quality, and only shows 4 common species ;

They are the aye-aye, senegal bushbaby, mouse lemur, and tarsier.

Hello Laophil and other ape-ficionados:

Guinea has put out three issues recently showing the guinea baboon - unlike other babonns, who are mostly thriving, thi species is endnagered. It has a characteristic red golden to foxy orange brown coat. Few zoos have them but there is a large group in the Zoo de Vincennes, in Paris.

Then there were these:

And then these:
