How about stamps showing games? Playing cards, board games, video games, etc... and related items. Outdoor games, too, providing they cannot also be called "sports".

Nells250 - Happy to oblige! Chess players, designed by Laszlo Kekesi after a 15th century woodcut illustration from English printer William Caxton's (ca. 1415~1422 – ca. 1492) "Chess Book," printed by offset, one of a seven stamp set issued by Hungary on June 6, 1974 to mark the 50th anniversary of the International Chess Federation and the 21st Chess Olympiad in Nice, June 6-30, Scott No. 2290. - nethryk |

Sweden had a set of six with different board games. I could only find a pic from Delcampe, but can you name all six games by the designs? France has a set of stamps based on popular videogames: |

Arn't we all I have (not so) fond memories of ending up bankrupt thousands of times, when I played my elder siblings at Monopoly. Perhaps the secret was, they were always the banker. Mind you, I had a lengendary thumb and could match all comers at marbles. (Aust sp : "Doogs") Answer (partly) Backgammon, patience, chess, dominoes, Top left and right |

Leisure Suit Larry! What a blast from the past. A rather desultory past. |

Here is an image of another chess stamp from Hungary: Chess players, printed by photogravure, and issued on April 9, 1950 to publicize the World Chess Championship in Budapest, Scott No. 889. Note that the player on the left is wearing overalls, there is a factory in the left background, and a tractor in the right background. I suppose the propaganda message was that the game of kings is a popular pastime in the workers' paradise. - nethryk |

Interesting observation on the Hungarian, the artist has the player picking up the piece from the base that's also unusual.
