I never gave cancels much thought until this site other than they got in the way of checking for details . Finally sinking in that the cancels are the provenance that tell the story behind or rather in front of the gems they hide. Even though this doesn't show the actual circle cancel with it I love the way the flag spreads across the 3 so nicely.  |

Gulgong, September 5, 1934, a small gold rush town in New South Wales...  The stamp depicts a Yarra Yarra tribesman and a view of Melbourne, according to Scott. It was issued July 2, 1934. (everything I know about Gulgong I know from Wikipedia) |
