For the classics, I always liked this one. According to my research Loudon Ridge, NH is a DPO that was only in operation from 1825-1903, so it represents a rather scarce cancellation. No year, but like the rubber stamp postmark and handwritten day...must have taken the postal clerks quite awhile to process mail at that rate:  |

Cynical, the 1c would be from sheet one of 18 possible positions (UL 91-99, UR 92-100). Below is the plate layout for 400 subject flat plate U.S. sheets  The booklet panes were printed from 360 subject plates shown below. Any of the booklet pane stamps with a straight edge on bottom would also have a straight edge on one side.  |
