All,

Again I am asking for any insights into an unusual item that I recently got in a collection of pairs and line pairs.

It's a Scott 1057 3c Liberty coil. It is attached as a "paste-up" pair to a plain leader strip that is is ungummed but perfed to the same size as the stamp. The printed stamp is gummed but overlayed by the ungummed strip. The perfs on the left and right of the leader appear to be the small holes, but the perfs on the left side of the printed stamp appear to be large holes. There's some obvious overinking in the center as well.

I'm familiar with paste-up pairs of Washington-Franklins and 1922 issues, but not on the later rotary press issues. I have other Liberty coil issues with leader strips attached but nothing that looks basically like and unprinted stamp.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

George

Normal style of leader strip on a coil. If you hole comments are correct, it add interest. Nice find.

Edit: Why not write it up and sent it to the EFOCC for publication in The EFO Collector. You will likely get informational feed back and comments on the small/large hole.

This actually appears to be the normal, I found a trailer strip I have and it is the same way. (image cropped from a longer strip)
Also a pic of leader strip I used to have.

Both have the different perfs from the stamp and the attached strips.

The attached strips are a different perf gauge all together, the stamp is perf 10 and the trailer strip is perf 12-1/2.

Large and small hole perfs both have the same gauge, it is just that the size of the holes and spacing between them are slightly different.

The top stamps are the large hole, bottom small hole.
