Through the years I have acquired several different of these imperforate stamps,
but I know nothing about the numbers on the reverse.

Would someone please explain?

Thank you

According to SG, stamps of this design were issued in coils of 500 or 1000 with every fifth stamp printed with a number on the back. I don't know if "461" is a plausible number to appear on the back of a coil stamp or not.

But the 35f value (SG 2223b) wasn't issued in coils! And definitely not imperforate!

Might it be a cut-out from postal stationery? But the paper seems too thin, and the margin at the top seems too wide.

Are your other examples all 35f values? If not, what are they?

Perhaps this has something to do with it?

The below quote was taken from an article by Henry Gitner Philatelists titled "Belgium Imperfs and Belgium Proofs."

For every modern stamp it issues, Belgium provides the philatelic world with some of the most seldom seen specialized material. For most 20th Century issues and almost all from 1930 to date, IMPERFORATES have been prepared in the original colors and distributed only to high government officials. From 1929-1970 only 200-400 of each were printed. From 1971 to date, 1,000 of each have been printed. However, only 240 of each of the Parcel Post Imperforates were ever printed!

A short visit to Delcampe shows tons of those stamps with control numbers on the back.
At a first glance, it seems older issues have the same number on the back of every stamp in a sheet, while newer issues have numbers that reflect the position of the stamp in the sheet (or are numbered from 1 upwards to n, n= number of stamps printed).
