This one was incredibly tough, much more so than the $500 catalog value implies. Scott #R5f, the 2-cent Bank check perforated, pair imperf between.

In the last 25 years this one is the first I've seen in person. Scouring the PF archives and auction archives, I come up with approximately 5 reported examples, with 1 or 2 others that look the part, but have blind perfs rather than actually being imperf between.

Awesome Dan! And what a great example of how disconnected catalog values can be. Maybe the value is based on a sale from 40 years ago since this is so, so hard to find. Almost impossible. I read this topic and went searching myself and wow, this is exceedingly rare IMHO.

There are dozens of disconnected catalog values out there. A specialist in almost any area can point out some.

Demand.

Yep, although the other imperf-between 1st issue pair, R100e ($25 Mortgage) has skyrocketed to $5,000 in Scott, and a bidding war ensues any time that one appears at auction. Maybe because it's a high-denomination large-sized stamp?

Hopefully the demand for this one picks up somewhere down the line.

Unlike some of the major keys that I would love to be able to acquire but are unobtainable unless you have really deep pockets (e.g., R17a, R51b, R132, R133, R158A, R158B, RB10a, RB10b), I'm content to scour shows, dealers, and the Internets for items like this that are actually much more scarce, but due to demand issues are actually infinitely more affordable... with any luck, I've got another 20-25 years to continue the hunt...

Another great pick up, the last one I recall was in Christies- the Weill Brothers sale back in November 1989, lot 232 sold for $320 plus the 10% tip. Also, I recall two other perforate with imperf between first issues, check out R1e and R66e often tried to be passed off as R66b.

Per SAN there were also the following (that I saw at least)

2002 Spink Sale #53. Contained in a block of 8. Sold for $750 including BP.

2005 Rumsey Sale #21. Sold for $384 including BP.

2019 Aldrich Sale #97. Contained in a block of 10. "Sold" for $322 including BP (although anything coming from his sales should DEFINITELY be expertized; doesn't show up in the PF DB). Any sold prices shown for Aldrich sales are immediately suspect.

I was trying to find the old link about a human body having like 97 cents in precious metals.

Found this instead!!

https://medicalfuturist.com/how-muc...-life-worth/

If you could harvest every organ and chemical in your body, you could make a $45 million. But in reality, as Medical Transcription estimates, the average price of a human dead body is more likely to fetch around $550,000 (with a few key body parts driving up the price).

May not be $10 after all...
