I'm sorting out a number of the 5/- stockman issue and need a bit of help to clarify something.
When I refer to Stanley Gibbons it states their figure 142 the 5/- stockman is Wmk C of A for both Sg.327 and 327a. Sg.327a being on white paper issued June 1964.
I now refer to a post many years ago by ROB041256 where it shows:-
ACSC 373A) 1961. Northern Territory Cattle Industry. 5/-. Perforation 14½ x 14. Cream paper. No watermark. Purple-Brown
ACSC 373B) 1964. Northern Territory Cattle Industry. 5/-. Perforation 14½ x 14. Cream paper (intermediate). C of A watermark. Reddish-Brown
ACSC 373C) 1964. Northern Territory Cattle Industry. 5/-. Perforation 14½ x 14. White paper. No watermark. Bright Brown-Red
So The Australian Specialist Catalogue seems to contradict Stanley Gibbons in that if it has a Wmk it can only be 1964 cream paper – correct?, and that there are no 1964 white paper copies with a Wmk?.
The reason I ask is that I have what look like white copies with a C of A Wmk.
Hope you can set me straight.

Hi starpez1,

The stamp you've shown is the cream paper variety.

Hope this info helps!

Hi Bobby De La Rue,
Thanks for your reply and info. The stamp I put up was so that members would know what I was talking about.
So I will now check it for Wmk and if I find it does not have one it is ACSC 373a 1961 and if it has a Wmk it is ACSC 373b - is that correct.
I specialise in Papua New Guinea so Australian stamps are very new to me, so I will be asking the questions.
How did you recognise it as cream from a scan? is there a magic solution to it.

Once again many thanks.

Just chalk it up to experience!

The shade of the stamp on white paper is different when seen side by side.

I don't have the ACSC so can't help you there sorry.

Therefore I'm assuming you use a Stanley Gibbons Catalogue like myself, so this stamp would be SG.327 Red-Brown, toned paper with C of A wmk, issued 26/7/1961.
Hope this is correct.
