Sg 231/Scott 112, Imperf Not Listed Scott/Sg/Yvert

Looking for some information on this one.
We see this stuff all the time in the US classics topics, but the reasons I've posted this are:
1. I don't see any tiny indentations that could have been perfs
2. fairly large margins and angle at the lower right

Since I don't have any Australian specialized catalogues, and Scott doesn't list postal stationary for any country other than U.S., I'm wondering if this is a postal stationary cut, or if in any of the Australian catalogues there is mention that this series is found imperforate. My guess is probably postal stationary.

If someone trimmed the perfs off of this stamp, they did a really nice job, and there were some nice margins.

Newspaper wrapper


I cannot find the exact example, but 1/2 p, usually, is a postcard or newspaper wrapper.

Your 1896 design is not listed imperforate in my 2007 Commonswealth & Empire. Also, the margins are very wide for this to be a stamp from a sheet, unless it is from the lower right corner.

NSK is right there with the wrapper idea.

If I'm reading Robson Lowe correctly, this would be 1897 or 1898, and it appears that you might need enough of the wrapper to show the instructions in order to pick between them. Perhaps something more specialized than the Encyclopedia would comment on die differences?

(I assume that there is no watermark on the back.)

I found an older book with the following information that may be helpful:

The information from that book referencing "S.G. type 15" relates to the wrapper shown by NSK. The piece in the OP is S.G. type 20.

Does the paper feel like a stamp or a newspaper wrapper (usually flimsier/smoother than stamp paper texture)?
Is there a watermark?

It is as CJD stated, SG Type 20. I've included a shot of the reverse. The paper is smooth on the image, but it's actually thicker than a stamp. The reverse looks like laid lines, but it is much more textured than any laid paper I've ever seen. No watermark.



I'm certain that this must be from a wrapper (or envelope), but in the reference that was attached by Fairdinkum, it doesn't show a Queensland envelope for SG Type 20 in the 1/2d value.
