There is a set of ten of these stamps. The 10 and 20 Baht stamps are the rarest and most valuable. Probably because in 1947 that was a lot of money for postage so, perhaps not many made or used. I have on 20 Baht mint which is valued at $400. in Scott's 2010 catalog. Wondering if anyone has more recent information.

Quote: plus the information your putting out is incorrect . Somebody is playing games @floortrader, what is the information that's wrong? Does Scott not show that catalogue value? I couldn't care less about NH, personally, but I can believe that not all that many nicely-centered examples survived hinging during their first 20-30 years of life. ETA: the quote |

I trust Scott. I bought the stamp in the mid 1970's in Bangkok from a respected stamp dealer, Sio Siah Kee. This man did not hing stamps. |

I do admit the example posted is a nice stamp. I do have to wonder, however, how Scott came up with that "catalog" value. Are there any recent sales/auctions to back up this number? |

As with your Cambodian issues, it's a perfectly good stamp, but not in any way rare. |

If you look around the internet: NH - $300-400 LH - $175 Used - $3-5
Based on the pricing levels I would surmise that most of this denomination was used for postage. |

Any particular reason this specific stamp was a "speculative play" 10 years ago? I know King Bhumibol fell ill and passed away 10 years ago (was ill for several years and passed in 2016), not sure if that was the reason why or if death of stamp subject increases value generally. One of the stories you hear is when King Edward VIII abdicated (not exactly same as death but analogous) people stocked up on his stamps but the hype was short lived. |

When issued 20 Baht was about USD 2.50. Quite a lot of money for Thai postage in 1947. I imagine that is one reason it has a higher value. I have not seen quantities issued but if anything like US dollar stamps the value for mint stamps is high because fewer were printed and people actually used them. The average income in Thailand in 1947 was 20 Baht per day. So, a day's wages for a stamp. |
