I purchased these covers in a Bangkok stamp and coin shop, in the late 1970's. They seem unusual for a first day cover as they are signed in ink by the designer who created the artwork for the stamp, Chamnane Prisayane. This artist has created some of Laos's most iconic stamps, especially his elephants of the 50's and 60's. I don't know much beyond that.

Spek, you are not in the correct forum. This one is only to introduce yourself.
Also, these are not really covers, but are called maximum cards

Indeed, Prisayane designed many beautiful Kingdom of Laos stamps, especially the elephant set of stamps. Prisayane, beside stamp designer, was a talented painter, painted landscapes and daily life of Laos. In 1971, Laos issued stamps show two of his great paintings:

- Sunset over the Mekong River
- Quite morning at Bane Tane Pieo

These also seem to be unusual maximum cards as the cards seem to reproduce some of the designing art work used to create the final stamp.

Spek, is there any information written or printed on the backside of the cards?

Thanks LaoPhil. My collection is rather odd-ball, but a few gems.

Peter: back side is blank.
