Silhat. How close to the UK do you live? It might be that it is worth catching the ferry or train to the UK and doing a big shopping trip for everything that sells more cheaply in Britain.. I know my brother who lives near Cambridge has sometimes gone on one day shopping trips to France. So he does a trip of about 150k before he even gets on the ferry to France.

Noocassel : I live just on the Channel coast, in Normandy. Going to the UK is an easy trip and, in fact, we're going to London next month (my wife lived there for 25 years, she needs her London fix )

So next month it's Christmas caroll at the royal Albert hall, afternoon teas, shopping for her, and, if I am lucky one or two stamps.

But, the point is that nearly nothing is cheaper in the UK .

They do have nicier things, that's true, but everything is awfully expensive. I just know the Stanley Gibbon shop on the Strand, which is certainly not the best option for good deals.

DrewM : thanks a lot for taking the time to give such a precise opinion.

I know that A4 paper is not the best choice. It's too narrow. The only other choice would be stockbook and I dislike them for showing a collection. I would like printed pages so self-printed is the only choice if we speak of consistency so… A4 it is, with regrets.

Clairefontaine is a good brand here, The A4 acid free brand came in white or ivory at 120g. I will try to make a crease with a guillotine (french speciality )and a blunt blade.

Anyway… the springback albums… the more I think of it, the least I believe that it's the solution. Your points and those from other here are very cleaver. Aesthetic can't be the only criteria. So, Leuchttrum it may be (45€ including slipcase).

Nevertheless, I will buy a springback album during my London trip, just to see, but my choice seems already done.

And finally hinges.

I just saw a video showing that they are quite acid. So even for used stamps they are not good. But, for a cheap stamps of less than 0.5 cts would you use mounts ?

That's an endless debat and opinions on this are too one sided so I don't know.

Silhat - springbacks would be fine, but I think you've been considering the wrong springback. Rather than looking at A4, it would be better to look at GB standard sizes (or German, which are a little larger).

Also easy to find used. Like noocassel, mine come from auction lots.

You can then get relatively cheap quadrille paper - 1,000 leaves @ £115 -

You can sometimes find linen-hinged leaves on ebay.

If you're working through a random heap of stamps, you really won't need printed pages - just hinge stamps on quadrille (all hinges are made by Prinz, so there's no advantage in paying extra for Lighthouse).

(I'd advise against the Dauwalders springbacks, having had a few - hard to open, impossible to keep open).

Or maybe look for those giant old Yvert two-peg binders!
