Here are some examples of my Republic of Texas notes. All of my philatelist friends are intrigued with the artwork and history. Note: (Sam Houston)secretarial signature on $10.

What does this have to do with philately?

Well, on the assumption that philatelists find this stuff interesting, I'll add one of mine. ;-)

I enjoy these from an engraving / engraver point of view, in addition to what the items are.

Also sometimes an essay for a stamp will share a vignette with some banknote, when printed by the same banknote company.

Due to a complaint of my posting of the Republic of Texas notes, I won't post anymore. My point was that old currency and stamp collecting have many similarities. In both you can appreciate the artwork and historical significance and like stamp covers, many are one of a kind. When I show my philatelist friends some other examples and placed under a loupe, they are amazed at the intricacy of the details. I'm sure every country has examples but I don't want to go astray in SCF.

I like these threads. Indeed they even occasionally show an engraving used for postal or revenue stamps. Not to mention we have several threads on stock/bonds, checks/drafts, many of which do not bear stamps. As one example:

The tangent conversations are often as interesting as the original object.

Due to a complaint

There are some professional complainers here. I loved the posts. Great stuff and hardly as tangential as a lot of other things posted. Would love to see more.

I would enjoy seeing more of Texas currency and notes also.

Please don't be discouraged by an occasional negative post.

You're not doing it right if someone doesn't complain.

Well I thought I was doing it right under the Checks, Stocks and Bonds forum that I posted these under, but the cavalry didn't show up till today!. I posted these on my 10th day of being a member of SCF, and as a newbie, I was still feeling my way around the boards and did not want to get any "Pillar of the Community" upset and to stay below the radar.
I thank y'all for your support!

On 9/16/23 NSK asked, "What does this have to do with philately?"

Since no one explicitly made the connection for him, I will.
I'd like to think that Freeman, Neziah, and George would thank me.

This is the third note ($20) in the last series shown, falling between the last two above. ($10 and $50)

What it has in common with the other two is the name of the company that produced it.

on the right (New York office):

Rawdon, Wright, & Hatch New York

and on the left (New Orleans office):

Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson, New Orleans

A few years after these notes were issued (1840) Tracy Edson moved from New Orleans to New York. That is when the New York office became Rawdon, Wright, Hatch, and Edson. This is the company which produced the nation's first postage stamps out of its New York Office in 1847.

Indeed they did. And they were based on the little portraits of Franklin and Washington that you can find on several RWH&E obsolete banknotes, like this one. Notice the similarity to the framed portraits that appear on the Texas notes posted earlier.
