Received another of these today.

This card was mailed from the S.M.S. Gneisenau on 5 August 1914 (the same date as the two items shown above from the Gneisenau). It was sent from Hugo Wilmer, a sailor of Gneisenau's 1st Department, II. Sailors Division, to his brother and sister in Braunschweig.

The card reads:

Quote:
Ponape, 26 July 1914

Dear Brother & Sister! Sending warmest greetings from Ponape to you and the two little Hugos. Many greetings to all our friends and all the club members.

The adhesive labels that were attached upon delivery have since been removed, but portions remain along the top edge.

Hugo Wilmer survived the sinking of S.M.S. Gneisenau. He was captured by the British, and appears to have survived the war.
