I have a large number of stamps showing problems with the crown and surrounds. One copy matching yours has a 1909 CDS. I have seen all positions on plate 5 and it is not there so must be plate 6.

I have not yet done much work on this plate so cannot help with position. Hopefully next year sometime, if I can get enough material in the form of larger blocks or pairs.

So far I have seen most positions on plate 4 and am currently writing the findings up, hopefully ready for review in January.

If anyone has any blocks or even pairs of the crown over A watermark plates 5 to 8 please either post them here or contact me.

Examples of flaw shown by fairdinkumstamps

The scan below shows similar flaws to the crown and surrounds but not on the top left scroll. There are flaws on the top right scroll so probably a different position.

I agree. That's the next one on my list. Constant void pattern right of crown and right top scrolls but also check for wear on the lower right scrolls.

Flaw 6 on my list is the large white flaw lower left of crown.
This has already been plated by Tasnaki as 4B-25.

Flaw 7 is Three large white flaws at top and crown.
I have found this on stamps with Watermarks 40 (2nd Crown over NSW) and 65 (3rd Crown over NSW).

As I posted the top left block from plate A I thought I would post the minor plating flaws from the other 3 positions.

Plate 7, I have 2 copies with 1909 CDS.

Either pane B or D. position 41. I have it on a right side large block but with right side margin text but no top or bottom margin so not sure which pane.

Tasnaki,

The 2004 Australian Commonwealth Specialists' Catalogue states that for Plates 7 and 8 the only marginal markings are 'POSTAGE - ONE PENNY' in the top selvedge and the bottom selvedge (there is also a marginal rule surrounding each upper and lower block).

So the block you've shown above would be from an earlier plate, those bearing the inscriptions in the left and right selvedge.

I haven't done much on the WM40 plates yet but I have a number of copies of this one.

My copies also show the top of the second scroll up on the left cut off as shown below.
