i have been collecting coins since I was 12, 64 now, never actually thought about collecting stamps with coins on them, maybe will do that |

Here is an image of a stamp depicting both sides of a one balboa coin minted in 1947, engraved and printed by Thomas De La Rue & Co., Ltd,. and issued by Panama on November 3, 1953 as the high value in a set of six stamps commemorating the 50th anniversary of the founding of Panama, Scott No. 394. Note: The design on the obverse of this coin is a portrait of Spanish explorer, governor, and conquistador Vasco Núñez de Balboa (c. 1475-1519), created by American sculptor William Clark Noble (1858-1938). The central figure on the reverse, designed by Panamanian artist Roberto Lewis (1874-1949), is an allegorical figure personifying "Liberty" and "Youth;" in her left arm is a fasces, and in her right hand she is holding an oak branch and the top of a shield bearing Panama's coat of arms. - nethryk  |
