That's pretty cool! Are there any illustrations? I'm guessing this is from the ... 1970s?

The price list has 32 pages, 1,350 checks, no images . There are 16 double sided pages stapled by a custom printer nicely. I would like to see a modern catalog made .

I added a several more interesting pieces to my collection in recent months. First, some government checks...

And a couple engraved checks with very nice vignettes.

Adding on to the topic of government checks, here are a few I've picked up. They're not revenue usages; I just like them aesthetically.

The next examples show the same allegorical figure.

And just for comparison, the same figure on an RN (revenue stamped paper).

And a similar figure on a state government check. This one is lovely in that while you can't necessarily see it on the scan, it is printed in metallic bronze ink.

Lastly, a design I just love aesthetically. Unused remainders are fairly common, typically selling in the $25-35 range. Used examples are a bit more scarce. The two examples below, while at first glance similar, are different designs.

I'm a couple months late to the party, but those are fabulous checks @revenuecollector! I'm very partial to the BEP-engraved govt. checks and have a few of those myself.

Here's my latest acquisition with two nice vignettes and an RN-L5 imprint. Printing by American Bank Note Co.

The eagle turned out to have some microprinting, which dates the engraving to 1859 -- well before it was used here. So you don't have to squint, it reads "Entered according to an Act of Congress in the year 1859 by the American Bank Note Co. in the Clerk's Office of the District Court of the United States for the Southern District of New York." These days it would suffice to say "Copyright 1859".

Nice! Yeah, it's fun what you can find buried in and around these great vignettes from time to time. Works of art.

Almost 10 years ago we took a road trip around Montana, visiting ghost towns, and stopped by Virginia City. It's almost certain Henry Elling's banking house was on Wallace Street, the main drag through town.

Picked up this very nice BEP engraved payroll check a few months back. I really like the govt. departmental checks with the historic portraits.

Lovely bicolor check with cute underprint design... well, not so cute when you realize that McNeely & Co. was a tannery, so all those cute animals go into the vat.

The newest check addition to my collection isn't as pretty as everyone else's, but she is still one of the sexiest girls at the dance. That said, the young lady on the left of the check is pretty racy for 1873!!! She is showing her shoulders for Pete's sake!

This was included in a meh eBay lot of remainders and "shtuff" with a good bit of volume and not a lot of value. Right in the middle of all the pics was a good enough scan showing not only this check, but that the tax stamp was an invert. I noticed, and nobody else did, and eBay victory was mine!

Now if I could just find a home for all the rest of the shtuff from the lot....
