Is there a place where I can find the watermark numbers listed in the the Scott catalog matched to an illustration of the watermark? They are scattered throughout the Scott catalog, but hard to find specific ones you are looking for.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi chris2015
There used to be a web site that had all the information, plus illustrations, for the sort of information you are looking for. Unfortunately, like many web sites, it is gone. Somebody here may have downloaded the pages before it went "bye bye". I think, but am not sure, that Rod222 may have some of the pages.
It seems that you have the Scott catalogs. If you have a stamp that you wish to watermark, you must know which country, at the least. Just go to the Scott catalog country section and at the beginning of that country's listings are all the known watermarks for that country. I am a little confused as to why you need all of them in one place.

Thanks for the info. Don't really need all of them in one place, it would just be very convenient to find them. All the watermarks for a country are not at the beginning of each country (for example if they were used in a previous country). I have a stamp from a particular country (can't remember now and I'm at work) that is listed as Wk #30, but there's no illustration for that watermark. It was likely used previously in another country, but where? |

chris205, as soon as you get home from work, and after you eat and kiss the wife, give us the specifics of the stamp. We may be able to help you out!

As I recall, there was a time when Scott had that info all in one place in one of the volumes, but those days are long gone now. |

Ok, I kissed the wife, but haven't eaten dinner yet...but that's ok. The stamp in question is Bechuanaland Protectorate either Scott# 82 (Wmk. 30) or Scott# 84 (Wmk. Crown ad GvR #33).
Thanks!

Working from Gibbons, there are various groups of GV overprints of the lower values: (i) Sept 1912 - 1d scarlet only, wmk Crown; (ii) July 1913-1924 - wmk Script or Simple Cypher; (iii) 1925-27 - Block Cypher (capital letters).

Those watermarks are illustrated in the Great Britain section of my Scott 1999 Classic Specialized. |

Great, thanks for everyone's comments. Yes, the ones I was looking for are in the Great Britain section of my catalog. I should have thought to look there! |
