I heard that back in the 80s the Post Office was selling stamps at a discount to philatelic wholesalers overseas. I'll bet that's were this one came from and that there's more than one sheet too. Remember my 4 cent dull gum plate blocks came from Canada. I still believe that the 8 cent dull gum did exist at one time too with plate numbers 35306 and 35307.

So yours came from Canada, therefore this sheet came from a foreign wholesaler? Quite the leap in logic.

Yes, that's only one possibility.

Here's some better pictures:

My 4 cent dull gums are gum type 1B clear gum whereas this looks like
dull gum type 1B yellow gum. Its not type 2 since the yellow gum goes to
the edge of the salvage.

The dull gums on the top row are 1A on the left and 1B clear gum on the
right. On the bottom row on the left is 1B yellow gum and on the right is
dull gum type 2. So there are actually four types of dull gum.

Linn's apparently dropped the ball running the story of the find of the sheet. It sells in tomorrow's Dutch Country Auction

They did the same thing to me when I reported the plate blocks to them back in 2016.

Well the J92 Dull gum sheet sold for $9400. That was way too rich for my blood. I expect some singles to be selling for $200 to $250 each at some point in the future. I wonder what the plate block will go for.

It was mentioned the sheet came from a Texas collector and that it was probably bought in TX.

All the left side positions on the 4 cent dull gums have been found for plate numbers 35306 and 35307.
Currently there are 6 plate blocks (shown below), 96 mint blocks and/or singles (since the sheet was broken up),
and one precanceled single (Robert Lee, TX). All known J92 dull gums have dull gum type 1B, but both upper left
plate blocks and all the singles have yellow gum. This would indicate to me that there were at least two printings.
I will keep you updated if I find any others or learn any new information.

I thought the dull gum types deserved a better explanation.

All J91 (3 cent) are dull gums are type 1A and all J104 (17 cent) are type 1B clear gum.

The dull gums on the top row are 1A on the left and 1B clear gum on the
right. On the bottom row on the left is 1B yellow gum and on the right is
dull gum type 2.

1A - Diagonally striated gum. Paper has sheen and tends to curl. This gum is clear.
1B - Diagonally striated gum. Paper has dull finish and doesn't curl. This gum can be clear or yellow.
2 - Smooth yellow gum. Paper has dull finish and doesn't curl.

The dull gums were issued in this order:
1A
1B clear
1B yellow
2

On the 1A dull gum since it tended to curl the BE&P first used gum breakers to stop it. Then they created 1B,
but then customers mistakenly thought and then complained that the stamps had no gum (dull gum was used
on other regular issue stamps too). Then they switched to type 1B yellow gum. I have no idea why type 2 was
created.
