Ireland Celebrating the Millennium February 29, 2000 One stamp in this series features The Great Telescope at Birr Castle. The astronomical telescope, with a 183-cm reflector, was completed in 1845 and was used for several decades until the first years of the 20th Century. The structure was restored and the telescope reconstructed in the 1990s and is open to the public.
Chile Astronomical Observatories in Chile September 27, 2002 Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory is located about 500km north of Santiago, about 70km east of La Serena, at an altitude of 2200 meters. It consist a group of telescopes from 8.0 m to 0.9 m in diameter. Paranol Observatory, operated by the Southern European Observatory, is located in the Atacama desert of northern Chile on Cerro Paranal at 2,635 m altitude. The largest telescope on Paranal is composed of four separate 8.2 m telescopes. In addition, the four main telescopes can combine their light to make a fifth instrument, the Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI).

South Africa Southern African Large Telescope November 11, 2004 The Southern African Large Telescope (SALT) is a 10-meter class optical telescope designed mainly for spectroscopy. It is located close to the town of Sutherland in the semi-desert region of the Karoo, South Africa. It is a facility of the South African Astronomical Observatory. SALT is the largest optical telescope in the southern hemisphere. It enables imaging and analysis of the radiation from astronomical objects out of reach of northern hemisphere telescopes.
Italy EUROPA - Astronomy May 7, 2009 The Telescopio Nazionale Galileo (Galileo National Telescope) is a 3.58 m telescope located at the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory on the island of La Palma in the Canary Islands. The observatory has been operational since 1998.
Greece EUROPA - Astronomy May 11, 2009 One of the two stamps features the Aristarchos 2.3 m Telescope on top of Mount Helmos, Greece. The telescope had its first light test in 2005 and became fully operational in 2007.
Indonesia Astronomy June 7, 2003 The souvenir sheet shows the Bosscha Observatory in Lembang, West Java. It is equipped with a Zeiss 60 cm double reflector telescope.

Ireland EUROPA - European Aerospace May 14, 1991 Two stamps; one shows Hubble Space Telescope. The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) was launched into low Earth orbit in 1990. The HST was built by the United States space agency NASA, with contributions from the European Space Agency. The telescope is operating as of 2016, and could last until 2030–2040.

Austria 75th Anniversary of the Sonnblick Observatory September 1, 1961 The Sonnblick Observatory was founded in 1886 for investigating the higher strata of the atmosphere. At 3106 meters above sea level in the Austrian Central Alps, it is the highest observatory in the world to be operated year-round.
