Not an easy topic the further back in time one goes. Here are two from Estonia: Marie Under (1883-1980), Estonian poetess nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 12 separate years. Lydia Emilie Florentine Jannsen (1843-1886), Estonian poetess known by her pen name Lydia Koidula.  |

ÅlandEuropa: Notable women May 6, 1996 (Michel # 113 & 114) Sally Alina Ingeborg Salminen (1906 – 1976), from 1940 Salminen-Dührkop, was an internationally renowned author from Vargata, the Åland Islands, Finland. She was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature three times. Fanny Sundström (1883 – 1944) was a teacher, politician and women's right activist in Åland, Finland. After becoming a primary school teacher, she took an active part in the "Martha Movement" and worked for social improvements.  |
