I have no info on these US seals, so all info gratefully received!
This design is similar to Jamesw's, but different.

These helpfully have the date on the selvedge.

Stampgal, yours appears to be a OX2a brown (from what I can see on my screen. OX2 is red brown).
Issued 1879 Scott's value $5 used, $10 mint.
It is on Thin crisp semi-translucent paper with yellowish gum.
Or, if it is on thin hard porous paper with clear transparent gum, and you'd consider the colour to be deep brown, it could be a OX4 from 1881 and have a mint value of $75 (no used value)

Thanks for that, James! It has very little gum on the back and has what I think is a hinge remnant, plus a crease top right corner. Personally, I don't bother too much about these things, but I suppose that it would affect the value.
I'd lean towards the second of your possibilities based on the paper/gum, but I'm not sure I'd describe it as deep brown?

I got it with a page of US revenues and bits'n'bobs of BOB (ha ha)at the one-and-only stamp show I've ever made it to.

I agree stampgal, That is definitely hard and pourus paper.

You would probably get $10-15 for it on eBay.

That's good to hear, Smauggie. I think I paid about $5 equivalent for the whole page of about 40 mixed BOB, cinderellas, etc.
I like to think value doesn't matter to me, but its always nice to hear you made a good buy.

stampgal,

I can't tell from the image which paper type your first seal is printed on. My inclination, after reading the below note from the Scott U.S. Specialized catalog, would be to lean toward the "thin, crisp, semi-translucent" option of OX2.

Quote:
No. OX4 is the so-called "Special Printing." It was produced from a new plate prepared from the original die. It received little usage, but at least two full panes are known to have existed.

Another note in the catalog indicates that, for the OX2, the seal impression can clearly be seen when viewed from the back. That should make determining the paper type a little easier.

Steve

Rod, if you're interested on it, send me an e-mail with your address and I'll send it to you at once. I don't collect Egypt; so, it'll be better "down under".
