The post office just off the main square in the old town of Cheb (Czech Republic). They had some old souvenire sheets on display. After taking care of the usual batch of stamps to stick on postcards, the lady who served me was so kind to get me two of the souvenir sheets issued in 2018. |

The main post office in the town of Foix at the foot of the French Pyrenees. In the Middle Ages, the Count of Foix was co-prince of Andorra. The arms of that principality encompass the arms of Foix. The lineage married into the Béarn viscounts' dynasty. Consequently, the arms of Béarn also appear in that of Andorra. |

The main post office in Plasencia (Cáceres province in the autonomy of Extremadura). The city's two cathedrals have appeared on stamps and miniature sheets. http://goscf.com/t/76002&whichpage=17#753595Earlier this year, one of our Spanish members posted the postal tariffs valid from 1 January 2022. Spain introduced a new tariff of €2.10 for mail to Russia and the USA. It is the 'D' tariff. Last week, I visited three post offices. Only this one had the 'D' tariff stamp. Others only had €2.10 stamps issued earlier this year that are inconvenient to stock, as you may require a €0.10 or € 0.20 stamp from 1 January 2023. And they will be even more difficult to buy. |

The post office in La Puebla de Santa María de Guadalupe (Guadalupe) also in Cáceres Province of Spain. The village is situated on a hillside in a UNESCO Georpark (Villuercas - Ibores - Jara). It is famous for its (enormous) monastery where the Black Madonna of Guadalupe is kept. Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe is patron saint of the Hispanidad, the Spanish-speaking peoples around the world. It is one of the most important places of Pilgrimage in Spain; probably the second after Santiago de Compostela. The monastery featured on several Spanish stamps. The village is among the 'most beautiful villages of Spain.' Its population is diminishing. http://goscf.com/t/76002&whichpage=11#691805http://goscf.com/t/76002&whichpage=4#683366 |

The city of Salamanca in Castilla y León is home to two cathedrals and two universities. It is one of the most monumental cities in Spain. Foreign students come here in large numbers to learn Spanish. The Spanish from Salamanca is considered the purest castilian tongue (comparable to England's Oxford, Germany's Hannover, and the Netherlands' Haarlem). The skyline of Salamanca with its cathedrals, the 'Ponti' university - not to be confused with the famous university from 1228 that is among the oldest in the world -, and San Estéban Monastery is among the most recognisable of Spain's skylines. The view of the 'Roman' bridge over the Tormes River and the cathedrals has been used on stamps. http://goscf.com/t/76002&whichpage=15#740715 |

The post office in Saint-André-de-Cubzac, a French town in the Gironde Department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine, situated just north of Bordeaux. The town lies on the 45th north parallel, situating it equidistant to the North Pole and the equator. |

The main post office in La Rochelle. The city is famous for its three towers that guarded its mediaeval port. During World War II, the Germans built their indestructable U-boat pens in this city's harbour. |

The main post office in Ingolstadt. I posted this in another thread on variable value stamps. The picture was taken in December 2021. The town of Ingolstadt in Bavaria has a few claims to fame. It was the place where the Duke of Bavaria signed the Reinheitsgebot for beer into law, in 1516. It, also, is the inspiration for Mary Shelley's 'Frankenstein.' |

Quote: We call it Pastamt in our convinient life and relations between each other. Interesting to see the orthography. It is quite different from the Russian, Bulgarian, and Polish ones. That first vowel also differs from Ukrainian, although there it shares the consonant that follows it. |

I was not referring to the conversion from Cyrillic to Roman, but to the 'o' ==> 'a' and 'tch' or 'ch' ==> 'sh' (shared only with Ukrainian).
It is interesting to see that surrounding Slavic languages have commonalities not shared by the Belarussian language. |
