On June 16, 1982 Ireland issued a four-stamp set featuring Irish literary and musical figures. The 29 p stamp (Hib #C335) of the set, shown here, depicts composer and pianist John Field (1782 - 1837).

From britannica.com, "Field was one of the earliest of the purely piano virtuosos, and his style and technique strikingly anticipated those of Chopin. As a composer her was at his best in shorter pieces , where his expressive melodies and his imaginative harmonies, often chromatic, are not exposed to the strain of long development."

Old print is circa 1820 (wikipedia), when Field was 38 years of age.

Austria 1956 The 200th Anniversary of the Birth of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The post card is not yellowed, I might have to adjust the brightness on my scanning.

Krešimir Baranovi#263; (1894-1975, Belgrade, Serbia) was a Croatian composer, and conductor of the Zagreb Opera, Belgrade Opera and professor at the Belgrade Music Academy

Vatroslav Lisinski (1819-1854) composed the first Croatian opera, Love and Malice (1846) as well as numerous works for orchestra, choir and soloists. The Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall is named after him. He was also one of the founders of Illyrism, a movement that advocated the importance of Croatian and more generally South Slavic cultural heritage.

This is a great thread topic and of great interest to me. Hope to revive the conversation. One of the interesting early composer sets to me is the 1935 composer anniversary set made by Germany. It features Schutz (born 1585) along with Bach and Handel (born 1685). The three were all German composers with an anniversary in 1935. Due to when they were issued, they appear on many covers from the Third Reich.

I find this group of European composers on Chinese stamps from 2017 to be very interesting. Classy designs and while famous these are notable composers, they are not the typical "Bach, Beethoven, Mozart" group.

Chopin (SN CN 4477), Liszt (SN CN 4478), Mahler (SN CN 4479), and Schubert (SN cN 4476)

This cover features the West Berlin stamp from 1988 of orchestral conductor and composer Otto Klemperer. I especially love the unusual cancel. It features an upright piano type known as a lyraflugel.
