Interesting critiques regarding the typography printing process.

Not sure if I agree 100% about the statement that typography
is unsuitable for reproducing landscape photographs.

For instance these Austrian definitives from 1932 don't
look that bad in my opinion.
Probably would have looked better in photogravure or recess but
letterpress was cheaper and that's what counted during the
Depression.

Possibly Mr Easton was commenting on the standards of the day.
I looked at Dominica, and would tend to agree (against, as you say Litho or Recess) and yes the Austrians are nice, a more developed standard it seems.

I find Tattoo's somewhat disturbing, in my time they were the choice of Sailors and Ne'er do wells.... today they are a popular art form.
We are a product of our early experiences sometimes.
