Military Uniforms On Stamps

Two NZ First Day Covers from 2003. Stamps came is a full sheet form as well.

Here are images of the four stamps in a set depicting historical military costumes and uniforms, designed by Brazilian illustrator Ivan Wasth Rodrigues, printed by lithography, and issued by Brazil on June 26, 1985, Scott Nos. 2017-2020.

Roman legionary, printed by photogravure, and issued by Spain on June 15, 1968 as one of three stamps in a set commemorating the 1,900th anniversary of the founding of León as the military encampment of Legio VII Gemina from 74 AD, Scott No. 1530.

This stamp depicts the current gala uniform of Colombia´s Infantry Batallion No. 19, Presidential Guard; with its No. 1A uniform, complete with prussian style Pickelhaube helmets introduced to the colombian army in 1908.

This unit can be seen on parade every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 1600 hours at the Presidential Palace in Bogota, Colombia.

The enclosed picture refers to the riots at "El Bogotazo" on April 9th, 1948; when rioters tried to take over the Presidential Palace being rebuffed by the Guard, that lost a Lieutanat and several soldiers.

The Battle of Huningue took place from May 3 to August 26, 1815. The souvenir sheet depicts the surrender of French General Joseph Barbanègre to the Archduke John and his Austrian Army.

The Battle of Denain was fought on July 24, 1712 as part of the War of the Spanish Succession. It resulted in a French victory against Austrian and Dutch forces. The souvenir sheet reproduces an oil painting depicting General Marshal Villars leading French charge.
