I received my 2024 Unitrade [Canada] from Wainwright. It's a monster. It looks to be as lovely as ever.
The solicitation for it stated that this was the last volume under the old regime, and that the future was uncertain, but that hopefully someone will pick it up and run with it. I haven't heard any newer news. I probably would have waited a few more years to upgrade, but the possibility, however remote, of it being the last one prodded me to act. I'm glad I did.

Thanks for the heads up. I looked at a listing for the 2024 catalog online and it apparently does not include postal stationery. Does the 2023 include it? (I understand that there is a separate more specialized catalog of Canadian stationery from 2019, but I suspect Unitrade is deep enough for my limited purposes)

I ordered a bunch of supplies & the new catalogue from Unitrade last week & spoke to the lady I usually deal with there - she mentioned the process of looking for a buyer for the company continues, nothing confirmed. Not sure if that would include the catalogue publishing as well as the coin/stamp supply business.
Since 2020, it does not include postal stationery - they refer users to Webb's catalogue. |

As editor of the Unitrade catalogue, I too am anxiously awaiting word of what will happen in the future.
There have been rumours of interested parties, but as far I know nothing has happened with a sale.
I do not work in the Unitrade offices. Except for editing various Unitrade publications, I have no involvement with the day-to-day side of the company or anything else to do with the business.
Sorry, wish I could offer more but I will likely hear something along with everyone else.

Unitrade's website is no longer active as of the last couple weeks, but they are still taking phone orders up until Nov 20th. Apparently there is no buyer for the business as a whole, but the lady I spoke to today said there may be some arrangement to continue publishing the catalogue. Let's certainly hope so.

Gino did have a buyer for Unitrade, but at the last moment, they backed away from the deal. Gino had already sold the building a few years back, and was leasing, but his lease ended in December, so at the last minute, they had to move all of their inventory to a new location north of Toronto.
They intend to open up again very soon as it appears Gino's daughter will take over the day to day running of the company. |
