50 plus years ago when I started collecting I went for stamps with very light or barely on a stamp postmarks. While going through the many albums and thousands of loose stamps I am intrigued by all the various postmarks.. I especially like the socked on the nose and slogan postmarks. I know everybody collects differently but is is there a preferred interest either way? Barely there of nice clear postmarks. I now prefer the nicer postmarks. More history on the travels of the stamps.

Generally speaking, the more readable the postmark the more desirable it is.

Slogan postmarks are best collected on cover or on piece, so you get to see the full postmark.

I collect my postmarked stamps generally on an entire cover. Gets the full postmark and some additional information.

For me, from an aesthetic point of view (to better appreciate the design of a stamp) I prefer that the postmark be minimal and hopefully just in one corner. But from a philatelic and historical point of view, a quality, clear postmark with place and date is better.

One side is the stamp collector, and the other is the marcophile!

I try to find a compromise - I nice postmark not concealing the stamp's features

Are you aware about the MPP postmarks, for philatelic precanceling (not for bulk mailing)?
I am my own postmaster in 4 different zip codes.
