I'm working on an article for the Airpost Journal about Robert Schink who served in the 395th Fighter Squadron in Europe during WWII. He was not a pilot but a member of the ground crew that kept the fighter planes operational. I've tracked down plenty of information on the 395th and Robert's role.

He also was a stamp collector. He designed the 395th's logo that appears as a cachet on envelopes sent back from Europe to the U.S. during the war. An example is pictured below.

He was a member of the Garfield Perry Stamp Club after the war and later the Hollywood (Florida) Stamp Club (HSC).

He passed away in 2010. He was born in Joplin, Missouri in 1921.

Has anyone heard of Robert in their stamp collecting journeys? Have you seen any other cachets he designed? Anyone know his collecting interests? Anyone from the HSC remember him?

Appreciate any insights!

This doesn't add much to what you already know, and you may already know it, but Schink is listed as a producer of WWII patriotic covers in both editions of Sherman's catalogs. The particular cover that you posted, however, is not cataloged, so far as I can tell. (I would expect to find it cataloged under "Panzer Dusters.")

If you look up the addressee, he also appears to be a collector and a Google search will show at least one example of a cover he sent to his wife in PA.

Thank you blcjr. I did not know that. I requested both of Sherman's catalogues from the APRL.

And thanks to StateRevs as well. It seems Schink send a number of covers to collectors. I have one addressed to Walter Czubay, a well known designed of naval cachets.

Hello,
I have many of the envelopes sent by Capt Robert Schink.
I am having trouble uploading the image of one of the envelopes here because of its size.https://youtube.com/watch?v=58vO2OI7GQE

In the meantime I uploaded a short vide of 3 of the envelopes.
If you are still writing the article and if I can be of help, please contact me.
