This is an horizontal pair of Washington 2c. Notice that the stamp on the left is slightly different from the one on the right. The alphabet N in United and Cents is probably an error. So is the alphabet S in Cents. The difference highlighted in red. Is this normal. All infos and opinions will be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't see an "error". I do see part of the airplane slogan cancel over the letters you reference though. Am I missing something? |

It does look like a very minor inking anomaly on the S. The extra ink on the N looks like part of the cancel. |

Rogdcam@ Notice the N's on the word United and Cents look deformed on the left stamp. While the stamp on the right looks alright. See the red markings. |

In my opinion, it's the cancel. Not an error. |

The right stamp has either a tear, fold, or (maybe) a plate crack) above and through George's head.
I am sure your left stamp has an inking anomaly - a one-off very minor "freak" because of some foreign matter on the plate. I only see it in the S, and maybe the N in UNITED. the N in CENTS looks like ink from the cancel.
Someone here will know a reference for consistent plate variations in 4th bureau stamps I don't know of. There is a small chance you have that. . .still not an "error" by the philatelic definition of "error."
Your left stamp will likely be mildly interesting to specialists in this issue whether a minor consistent plate variant or a one-off freak. Your right stamp is likely damaged, but if it is a plate crack, it would be more interesting to a specialist than the left.
If the right stamp is damaged, I'd separate the stamps and discard the right stamp.
In any case the left stamp would not sell for more than a few dollars if you are lucky. |

Several observations: 1. The stamps appear to be Scott # 634A, the Type II variety. 2. A plate crack will typically fill with ink and will print, rather than be white. The line across the right stamp is more likely damage. An image of the reverse might tell us. 3. There are all sorts of minor inking oddities which occur like this, scooped ink, poor adhesion, etc. If this were a constant variety on the plate, it would have been noted long ago. |

John good call on the Type II. The two hairlines aren't that pronounced but the front head outline and the scroll recuts are very strong. too bad the second stamp is torn. |
