I began collecting mint Canada in January, 2024, and recently completed the Admiral series. Receiving the last stamp was delayed by the Canada Post strike, but finally arrived today.

The death of King Edward VII on May 6, 1910 necessitated a new series of stamps to be issued bearing a likeness of his son, George V. The design for this new issue, came to be known as the Admiral design because it shows King George V dressed in an Admiral's navy uniform. The actual design was a composite in which the head taken from a photograph by W. & D. Downey and the chest and uniform from a photograph by W. Barnett. The design was engraved by Robert Savage and the first stamps of the series were issued on December 22, 1911. The American Bank Note Company of Ottawa was the printer as with the earlier issues. It changed its name to the Canadian Bank Note Company in 1923.

Of all the modern issues before the current reign, it is this one which offers collectors a vastness of scope that cannot be rivaled. It is the first issue to feature regularly issued coil stamps and booklets which are within reach of the collector with modest means.

Didn't we have a thread on this before?

What are you thoughts on adding items such as this coil?

The booklet singles with rough edges are likely sheet stamps.

Very nice collection and presentation. You can expand your collection of the Admirals by adding pages to differentiate between the wet and dry printing issues.

Just beautiful. Great job!

Do you see yourself including lathework at some point?

A beautiful set indeed.

Which one(s)? The complete orange-yellow booklet pane of 6 has rough edges itself, just like some of the singles. Are you saying that pane could also have been cut from a sheet? Or are the rough edges that you are seeing are different from that one?

Your timing is amazing - I was working on my Admirals last night! I only need a couple of booklet panes and a few War Tax stamps to finish my collection.

While browsing the Unitrade Canada stamp catalog, I was reminded about those stamps that have "lathework" in the selvedge. Have you managed to collect any yet?

For those who may not be familiar with lathework, here's a photo borrowed from an eBay auction.

Zebraman:

Telling apart booklet singles vs straight-edge sheet stamps can be challenging with Admiral stamps.

It's hard to tell without a close-up but the 2c Carmine and 3c Brown are likely not booklet stamps.

The Orange/Yellow Booklet pane does look a bit odd but not sure about that.

Here is a good resource:
