Hello Folks,
I don't have access to a Unitrade Specialized so I may be making a fool of myself here but I 'm looking for all general information on the two Ashton-Potter plates used in the printing of Canada 929, The Cradle. I only know about the Abititbi Price and Clarke papers.
Thanks,
Ugruk

Hello Ugruk
Here are the two A-P plates - Harrison and Clark (Two early American explorers, I understand;)

Unitrade Editor adds a paragraph explaining how the brown colour on Plate No. 1 must be a true variety and not a case of missing colour.

Unitrade catalogue gives the following dates, but I am guessing the plates correspond with the printings.

Abitibi Price paper Apr. 8, 1983 - plate 1?
Clark paper Dec 19, 1983 - plate 2?

Edit- no change

Thanks for all of this folks.
I will post the two, major variety, Ashton-Potter inscription blocks that I have, once I am happy with the photography, but I still don't quite understand how the Ashton-Potter inscriptions relate to the Abitibi-Price and Clarke papers. How does one tell what's what?

Both Clarke paper and Abitibi-Price paper have clear gum and the papers are indistinguishable between them.

The only way to distinguish them is a letter indicator on the plate block's inscription [ C, APP, HP, TRC, etc. ] or information provided directly by Canada Post.

In saks' answer, Unitrade must have used Canada Post information to state that plate 2 is Clarke. Therefore, the non-numbered plate block must be Abitibi-Price.

|Harrison paper was only used on the SC 928 39 cent, SC 930 50 cent and SC 933 68 cent stamps in this series.

corrected spelling.
