A scanner. Nothing comes close to providing a good image. You don't need to spend a lot of money. My Epson scanner was under $100.

I've used Epson scanners for more than 25 years (and in fact, in that whole time I've only had 3 scanners). The scanner will have its own driver and software to take images. I use Irfanview for any image modification (cropping, rotating, re-size, etc.)

I've used Epson scanners in the past and didn't have a problem with them. Have a Canon Pixma now and it's pretty good. I use an old copy of Paintshop Pro for the images once they're scanned. Keep is simple, Scott.
