GB Sg750 / Scott 516 With Color Omitted - Is This A Known Variety?

My wife working on her Great Britain stamps and came across this variation in a 1967 stamp. The top stamp is the normal version. The bottom is missing a dark color on both left and right edges. Looking for wisdom. Thanks.

I don't collect these, but it looks like there are vertical stripes of tagging along the left and right sides which have become opaque thus obscuring the ink underneath..

Unfortunately, it is not a colour-missing error. This is easy to see in the printers' imprint. It changes colour from the first "R" onwards. To be a missing colour, the colour should noy have been printed at all. The "LOWRY" ar right shows the same issue.

Something made the phosphor bars react as John Becker suggested.
