I purchased a 2000 Edifil catalog to identify my Spain material not listed in Scott. Here's my collection of the Plan Sur de Valencia stamps. The Edifil catalog has 11 listings plus a variety of the last issue (ordinary paper vs. phosphorescent paper).

I don't have them all, so the missing stamps can be viewed in this thread:

I hope this helps those of you who have these stamps in your collection unidentified.

Regards, Robert

Edit: Replaced image for one without Photobucket watermark.

The Plan Sur was drawn up after a 'Gota Frķa' caused severe flooding in Valencia on 14 October 1957. Officially, 81 people perished. It is estimated the number of people that died was nearer to 300.

The Plan Sur changed the flow of the river Turia south of the city of Valencia.

Last Tuesday, 29 October (2024), another 'Gota Frķa' devastated the Mediterranean regions of Spain. Valencia with its surrounds was the worst affected area. The Plan Sur kept the city of Valencia safe. A kilometre south of the new bed of the Turia is the Poyo wash. The heavy rainfall of 29 October (2024) caused by the 'Gota Frķa' that also is known as a 'DANA' caused this wash to overflow.

The death toll stands at over 200 people and many others are missing. The Plan Sur may have saved many people.
