Is This Considered Kiloware?

I work for a company that gets a lot of mail daily. If I as to ask them to save the envelopes and I cut them out and bag them, would that be considered kiloware if I do not search them? It would only be United States.

It would be kiloware when you start to get kilos of it. Whether or not you search it, it is still kiloware. Hopefully you will not cut down envelopes which show interesting postal history examples such as auxiliary markings or additional services and fees.

No I would not cut interesting postmarks. I think I will have them save for me.

Good luck. For privacy concerns, most companies would rather shred their empty envelopes than have their mailing list reconstructed from return addresses or risk having a missed check or other contents fall into the wrong hands. I have seen a few companies where the return address area MUST be removed.

Thanks for the heads up. I don't think it will be a problem though. I would return all the envelopes to work and place in the shredding bins. But I do think they just throw them in the trash right now.

Thanks Bob for keeping the spirit of collecting alive! As some have said, Postal History starts out as garbage, so if you find any Registered, Certified mail or something out of the ordinary it is good to save it intact. Modern Priority Mail stamps are nearly impossible to find postally used.

I too am a trimmer of envelopes that come in the mail, and I have my relatives saving their mail too, even the "boring stamps." I put the stamps in a pool for a nickel apiece at the stamp show I do and there are people who will spend 8 hours at it! It takes a long time of trimming to reach a kilo. I typically wind up with maybe 3-4 kilo a year. In any given car trip across country, when I'm not driving I can be snipping staps, although one has to be careful with an open car window!

I have two words for you landoquakes.............air conditioning! I never travel without it.

I remember going through the penny boxes at shows my grandfather brought me and my brother to back in the late 60's and early 70's. I have a lot of cool stuff from those penny boxes but none of it is valuable.

I will have to check for stamp shows in my area but I do know they are far and few between.
