*** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. *** Hello everyone Im curious if anyone still uses stampworld to buy or sell stamps? im looking at getting the vip or sellers account there to sell some rare stamps apparently on there site are worth 1300 usd but i'm not sure if that is correct either. Is it worth it or should I go somewhere else?
P.S also how would anyone send a rare stamp and not be scared its not going to make it? do you need insurance ? im from new zealand and never have sent anything of value through mail!.
Thanks :)

If it is a valuable stamp, send it insured and signed for (I would expect the latter to be standard for the former).
I have no experience with Stampworld, but it is has very basic listings and does not often come up as a site were people buy or sell stamps. You might be limiting your customer base significantly. Also, what the site says the stamp is worth and what someone will be willing to pay for it might be in two universes.
Keep in mind that unless the 'value' makes it clear what quality the sold stamps had, it means nothing at all. This is a concept the dodos at LastDodo do not grasp when listing 'average price realised.' A clean stamp with fresh colour and full perforations that has neat cancellation that leaves the image clear will be worth a multiple of a stained stamp with heavy cancellation, washed-out colours, and missing perforations. If one of each has been sold, the average price is completely useless. |

Could you provide scans of the stamps you think have a high value? Bear in mind that, even where stamps are in excellent condition, most will attract only a percentage of the catalogue price. Beyond that, there's nothing wrong with ebay, and it will get you a much wider audience. |

Of those, the French mandate issues are nice to have, but of no special monetary value. The Modena issues really do need decent scans. |

You mention you want to sell the more expensive items. You also mention an item that is listed at USD 1,300 according to Stampworld.
Keep in mind that it is foolish to buy expensive stamps that, frequently, are forged and/or are overprinted online from a complete stranger without a certificate from a recognised expertiser. If the stamps are French or Italian (colonies) that might mean that, unless you focus on the few New Zealand collectors of those areas - when it is likely the collectors are in Europe -, prospective customers might want a certificate from an expertiser in one of those countries.
If you are lucky, they will pay the expertising fee if and only if the certificate comes back as 'genuine and without faults' - unless you specify faults -. But be prepared to be the one to bear the expertising cost, including insured postage to send it to an expertiser.
You might consider selling through an auction house or dealer if you focus on the expensive items. |

Thank you everyone for your insightful answers, ebay has such massive fees and just to hold a sellers account you need to pay annually! Still unsure of what to do |

You don't have to "pay annually" to sell on ebay. And compare its seller fees to those of an auction house. |

Quote: just to hold a sellers account you need to pay annually! No, you don't. eBay doesn't have a membership fee, so what exactly are you looking at? There is no other platform that lets you reach so many potential buyers so cheaply, so if you think eBay's transaction fees are too high for your liking, you haven't really done any research. |

Something is wrong here ,you don't try to make a $1,300 transaction with a person you don't know on a system you don't understand . Get a local expert or stamp dealer to help you out if you continue .
