There will always be people interested in collectables. They just might not be your children!

The advice on "Sell them while you have the ability to get the best price" isn't helpful, as it reduces everything to mere dollars, and ignores the fact the many collectors won't part with their treasures while they're alive.

The advice on estate planning however is wise. I've done it. I would encourage all collectors to do it too.

This basic story line has been recycled for years. The article completely misses the pendulum swing that's been going on for a handful of years with Gen Y. Now, if your stuff is garbage, sure, (probably) nobody wants it. But if you have some nice things, there might end up being homes for them after all.

The stampdragons is here to report, that this article is mostly true. It's not just stamps. They don't value the same things. The young unfortunately my peers are busy buying dumb stuff like digital tokens for money and NFTs for art. Once the great boomer generation goes, general stamp collections will be heading EAST where the young collectors will get older and have more money and further I expect prices of general stuff will generally fall.

And then there is the interest in some collections (collectables) that comes from the fact they were handed down within the family from generation to generation. As long as folks live in families this may be the driving force in becoming the next stewards of our treasures.
