The good news: The Collectors Club is re-opening in May.
The surprising news: a ticket costs $500.

Does that amount for an awards banquet seem reasonable?

Not unexpected. $500 for a banquet for an organization with a $150 a year membership is not unreasonable.

Also supply and demand. The location is not huge, so they would not be able to hold every interested attendee if tickets were only $50 a piece. Raise the price so that only the most dedicated members would be in attendance for this momentous grand opening event. I expect it will still sell out at that price.

Unmentioned, but it would not surprise me if a copy of Nick Kirke's new book that is being released at the event is included in the party's gift basket included as part of the ticket price.

Also, is the NYCC a non-profit? Fundraising events of this caliber are common for non-profits.
