I Have Some Work To Do...

I picked up this lot of kiloware from a local ad not to far from my house. Most of the stamps are on paper, but there is a pretty good amount to sort through. It appears that the previous owner has done some topical sorting; I have yet to unravel their intentions. I am not a topical collector, so the current sorting will not benefit me.

After much searching this forum for sorting techniques, I have decided to take a go. I am going to begin sorting by denomination. Of course, stopping to pull out anything that catches my eye. It is going well so far, actually much faster than I thought! I am always open to suggestions for my second round. I am not entirely positive of what I am going to with these once I have collected my needs. And then of course the soaking

Why?
if you intend soaking all....folly
By all means sort, but isolate the stamps you want, for soaking then on sell, or give away.

I will not be soaking everything that is for sure. After my sorting is complete I will only be soaking my plunder. That task is still a bit daunting, as I have never soaked on a large scale. This is my first large kiloware lot. I actually found this one on Facebook marketplace of all places.

So far I do enjoy it. I am a fan of the hunt!

Hows it going with this buy so far?

So far it is going well! I have found quite a few Washington's and franklins. A handful of old special delivery and airmails, a high face value prexie, as well as some fancy cancels (the first in my collection). Quite a bit of pre 1940 material. I also flung one entire bag of non US stamps, which I don't collect. The rest is pretty standard kiloware. I'm trying to figure out what to do with the rest. I'm thinking about keeping some and either trading or donating the rest. I have two kiddos (1 and 3) that may enjoy stamps when they get older, so the idea of keeping it around isn't so bad. I figure, if I don't keep it, maybe I could pass it along to another collector who has kids/grandkids that would be interested.

I am probably 65% through the initial sorting process. Obviously finding a lot of duplicates. I have found some higher face value definiitives. Lots of standard issues that would be good for variety searches. Keep in mind they are all on paper too. Soaking will be required. I am now accepting want lists for trading purposes! Looking for mint USA 1900-1940 and used pre 1900 USA. I have a more precise want list avaliable. I would be willing to part with handfuls of random stamps as well, if anyone would be interested in picked through kiloware!

Hello! Wow, so many brands! I wonder how much time and money was spent to collect them? Probably not one or two people collected them. I also collect, I travel a lot - once I even had to drive through half of the country for a collection of stamps! Fortunately, in my field of work, which I used for help to find by the wonderful website ***Removed by Mod, No Drive-by links***, I can afford to travel - only the Internet is important to me. Because I am a regional director and sometimes I have to travel in order to expand both the contact list and the network of our branches.
